Abstract: The authors present some elements of psychosomatics, considering the relationship between body and soul/mind in psychoanalytic, philosophical, and naturalistic terms. Their starting point is Hegel’s view that the ideal is the immaterial side of matter and the material is the material side of the ideal. The authors differentiate the ideal into the real, the imaginary, and the symbolic, supplemented by phenomenal feelings. Sensations are real; thoughts are phenomenal, imagined, or symbolic. The unconscious is real or, as displaced, imaginary-symbolic. The authors propose to frame the boundary between body and soul/mind on the basis of quantum theory as an abstract equation and speak of a “Q-line.” These relations are explained through the allegory of the fold, the floors of a baroque house, and the rhizome, and are firmly situated within the context of the humanities.
