Mają one związek z dialektyką podmiotowych ekspozycji i ukryć, przypominającą strukturę samego Niesamowitego, które w interpretacji Nicholasa Royle’a urasta do rangi jednego z najistotniejszych pojęć psychoanalizy.

Abstract: The author of this essay undertakes a rereading of Sigmund Freud’s essay The Uncanny, paying particular attention to the aporias, ambiguities, and silences present in it. These have to do with the dialectic of subject exposures and concealments, reminiscent of the structure of the uncanny itself, which, in Nicholas Royle’s interpretation, rises to become one of the most essential concepts of psychoanalysis. According to the main hypothesis of the paper, Freud’s work goes beyond the confines of a scholarly dissertation—rather, it is a story of what spectrally returns, though it seemed to have been overcome. The final section is devoted to a provocative reading of The Uncanny and The Sandman by Nicholas Rand and Maria Török, who draw attention to the role of the gaze and the motif of the eyes in both texts.
